About this tool
Scientific Calculator provides advanced mathematical computation directly inside your browser. Powered by math.js, it supports trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, tangent), inverse trigonometry, natural and base-10 logarithms, exponential powers, factorials, roots, and angle mode toggling between degrees and radians. All calculations run strictly in client memory without external server requests.
When to use it
- Evaluate trigonometric ratios in either Degrees or Radians for engineering and physics coursework
- Calculate logarithms, exponential growth, and decay equations
- Compute factorials, powers, and roots for discrete mathematics and statistics
- Verify multi-step algebraic operations using parenthetical groupings and answer recall (
Ans) - Perform rapid precision calculations without proprietary desktop software or hardware graphing devices
How to use it
To evaluate an expression
- Select your desired angle unit under Angle mode:
- Degrees (Deg): Best for geometry, surveying, and elementary physics problems where right angles are 90 degrees.
- Radians (Rad): Standard for calculus, differential equations, and continuous periodic functions where a full rotation is .
- Enter your mathematical formula using either your physical keyboard or the clickable scientific keypad.
- Enter functions like
sin(30),cos(pi/3),ln(10), orsqrt(144). - Use parenthetical terms to enforce operator precedence, such as
(2 + 3) * (5 - 1). - Use
^for exponents (for example,2^8yields256).
- Enter functions like
- Press the
=action button (or hit Enter on your keyboard). - View the computed result in the high-contrast display. Press Copy result to copy the numerical output directly to your clipboard.
- Previous computations appear in the Calculation history list below. Click any saved entry to reload the expression into the input field.
Questions
What order of operations does the calculator follow?
The calculator strictly follows standard operator precedence (PEMDAS / BODMAS):
- Parentheses and Brackets: Expressions inside parentheses are evaluated first from the innermost grouping outward.
- Exponents and Roots: Operations like
^and square root functionssqrt(...). - Multiplication and Division: Evaluated from left to right.
- Addition and Subtraction: Evaluated from left to right.
How does angle mode affect trigonometric calculations?
- In Degree mode, input arguments to , , and are interpreted in degrees ( to ). Inverse functions (, , ) also output their answers in degrees.
- In Radian mode, input arguments are interpreted in radians ( to ). Inverse functions output their values in radians.
- You can switch modes at any time before pressing equals to re-evaluate formulas according to the active angular standard.
What is the difference between ln and log?
ln(x)evaluates the natural logarithm with base (), such that:
log(x)evaluates the common logarithm with base , such that:
